New Linear Wire EDMs Introduced

EDM Network, Inc has new product offerings, the Chmer EDM machines and high speed milling machines and also the new AMS AW linear wire EDM lines.
The AW-SL series machines offer four standard sizes starting with XY work travel of 14.6" x 10.6" with a Z-axis of 10.2" and going up as large as 36.2" x 24.2" with a Z-axis of 15.7". The large capacity allows for workpieces as large as 54" x 39" x 15.7". Special sizes are also included in the product offerings.
The combination of the linear motor drive system and the "T" shape heavy ribbed casting allow for thermal balance design and long term reliability. "Linear motor drives with precision glass scales provide the fully closed loop system for the high accuracy positioning and part shape definition versus ball screw drives. Also, the linear motor drives offer quick response, low vibration and virtually zero backlash, resulting in improved accuracy and finish with less machining time for the same results," said a company spokesperson.
The automatic wire threader (AWT) is standard on all machines offering threading in less than eight seconds with only five moving parts in the entire threading system. The AWT is designed for reliability and low maintenance costs. Threading with or without a waterjet is another feature of this design.
