POWERMILL HPC3

The customer was fully satisfied after accepting the machine.
Among the high gantry milling machines manufactured by Mecof for large dimensions, the Powermill HPC3, built for a customer, stands out as a solution that combines power, precision, and operational flexibility, EMCO reported. It is a portal milling machine designed to meet the most complex needs of the electrical cable manufacturing industry, but with features that also make it suited for other high-production applications.
With axis strokes of 12 m in X, 4 m in Y, and 2.5 m in Z, the Powermill HPC3 provides ample working capacity. Its portal architecture, combined with the box-in-box design, offers rigidity and thermal stability even in demanding machining operations, while the latest generation Siemens Sinumerik ONE numerical control enables effective cycle management and digital integration of production processes.
One of the strengths of this machine is its ability to manage different interchangeable heads, which are all designed for automatic changeover, EMCO reported.
The universal bi-rotary head with automatic millesimal positioning offers power (38 kW), torque (1,000 Nm), and speed (6,000 RPM) effective for complex machining operations, while the more compact vertical spindle head meets the need for precision and versatility. The unit has a minimum diameter of 185 mm and an overall length of 765 mm. It offers 15 kW of power, 390 Nm of torque, and a speed of 3,000 RPM. Both heads have an ISO 50 connection.
The machine is equipped with automatic parking cradles for the heads, anti-rotation devices, an Alberti head with ISO 40 connection, internal cooling, and 1:1 direct transmission designed for light machining.
Productivity is enabled by a 64-position tool magazine (two chains of 32 positions), integrated into the shoulder of the machine, with independent chains to maximize changeover speed. There is also a complete measurement and control system, which includes a Renishaw radio probe, kinematic measurement, and tools for checking tool length and diameter.
Intensive milling requires effective cooling. For this reason, the Powermill HPC3 is equipped with a dual cooling system, both external and internal to the spindle (up to 40 bar), 2,000-liter collection and filtering tanks, and flow control devices. This solution helps ensure thermal stability, long tool life, and consistent quality of machined parts.
Another detail is the ability for the operator to maintain safe, unrestricted movement during set-up and operation. This is enabled by the Siemens HBG 800-DP wireless keypad.
"Mecof's Powermill HPC3 is not simply a gantry milling machine: it is a complete, `giant' work platform that combines the solidity of traditional mechanics with the intelligence of the most advanced automation," concluded a company spokesperson.
