Forest City Gear Adds ZEISS CONTURA Machines for Gear Inspection

Forest City Gear, a manufacturer of fine- and medium-pitch custom gears, has announced the purchase of two new ZEISS CONTURA Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), a strategic investment that expands the company's gear inspection capacity and reinforces its commitment to accuracy, responsiveness, and customer support.

The ZEISS CONTURA systems will be dedicated to gear inspection and dimensional verification, helping Forest City Gear address increasing inspection demand while maintaining the tight tolerances required for precision gear manufacturing. The addition comes at a critical time, as growing CMM utilization across the shop had become a limiting factor for throughput.

"We needed these additional machines to increase throughput ASAP," said Forest City Gear President Kika Young. "The ZEISS team understood we had a customer who was significantly behind schedule due to CMM constraints. We asked if ZEISS could expedite, and they came through in a big way."

That accelerated timeline allowed Forest City Gear to respond quickly to customer needs without compromising inspection rigor or quality standards-an outcome that reflects the strong partnership between Forest City Gear and ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions. With this purchase, the new CONTURA machines represent the third and fourth currently in use at Forest City Gear for inspection.

The ZEISS CONTURA platform is well-suited for high-precision gear inspection, offering stability, accuracy, and flexibility for a wide range of gear geometries and tight tolerance requirements. Adding two machines at once provides immediate capacity relief and long-term scalability as customer demand continues to grow.

"Forest City Gear trusts ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions to help deliver fast turnaround times, quality, and innovation," says Dylan Coutelle, Regional Sales Manager at ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions. "To meet the needs of the many industries they serve, they have developed a state-of-the-art quality department with ZEISS technologies and software supported by a team of highly skilled engineers and technicians. When they reached out with an urgent need to expand their quality lab on an expedited timeline, we collaborated across multiple ZEISS teams alongside our USA production center to deliver and install the ZEISS CONTURA CMMs within their critical deadline, helping their team uphold their commitment to quality, service, and speed."
