USNS Billy Frank Jr. (T-ATS 11)
Austal USA has christened the USNS Billy Frank Jr., the Navy's sixth Towing, Salvage and Rescue Ship (T-ATS 11), at the company's Mobile, AL, ship manufacturing facility.
In attendance from the U.S. Navy were Dr. Brett Seidle, Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition (acting); Rear Admiral Thomas Anderson, USN, PEO Ships; and Rear Admiral Mark Haigis, USN, Deputy Commander, Military Sealift Command.
Also in attendance were ship sponsor Peggen Frank; ship namesake representative William Frank III; and from Austal USA, President Michelle Kruger and Larry Ryder, Vice President of Business Development and External Affairs.
This is the first christening ceremony held at Austal USA for a steel ship. T-ATS 11 is the first of numerous construction contracts awarded to Austal USA for U.S. Navy T-ATS vessels.
