Seamless Automated Welding Keeps Operations Flowing

TTI Oil, a builder of ASME code pressure vessels and specialty solutions for the oil and gas industry, has continued to grow its welding and metal fabrication business with the installation of an RWP-C automated welding station by welding automation provider Pemamek LLC. Since 2009, TTI Oil has specialized in hydraulic repair systems, tubing system integrations, instrumentation controls and hydraulic, pneumatic, instrumentation and electrical service.

TTI Oil's PEMA RWP-C Robot Welding Portal is a gantry-type system that welds skid panels and structural skids for gas and air compressors, as well as different bases for industrial equipment used in the oil and gas industry. Equipped with a robotic welding station and safety systems that move with the gantry, the station allows for a large work area with multiple fabrication steps taking place at the same time.

The RWP-C welding portal is controlled by a proprietary version of the PEMA WeldControl 300 Offline (OLP) 3D CAD-based software specially developed for TTI Oil's welding processes. Developed for 3D CAD-based offline programming, the software's user-friendly interface enables welders to quickly and easily download CAD files and then edit welds and robot configurations as necessary. Operators can further manipulate individual welds and access a full library of weld functions and weld slicing options-all on one panel. Additionally, the ability to configure robotic positions and welds offline allows welding operators to move from job to job more efficiently. Multiple welds can be programmed into the software ahead of time then implemented when needed. Advanced multipass welding operations can be programmed for large and heavy steel structures.

In 2015, TTI Oil established a fabrication group to meet different customer demands for process welding jobs, expanding its product and service offerings to include welding skid panels and structural skids for gas and air compressors, industrial equipment and trailers, creating the need for more welding capacity.

Faced with a lack of skilled welders-and the resulting bottlenecks in the production line-TTI Oil adopted an automated approach to its expansion, which resulted in smoother more efficient processes, accurate welds and little to no downtime. The key to this success was partnering with a welding automation company with years of experience and the willingness to listen to find the right system for the job and customize it to TTI Oil's operation. Upon discovering Pemamek's capabilities, TTI Oil President Octavio Arrambide worked with members of the company's Technical Team to build the system that would fit his shop and optimize production.

The new system was installed and commissioned in three weeks by the U.S.-based Pemamek Tech Group. Training was completed in a few weeks and the system was up and running performing consistent and accurate welds, keeping the production process going with little downtime.

"Pemamek is a great company and a great partner for us," said Arrambide. "PEMA technicians were outstanding. They trained our guys and made it one simple and efficient process. Pemamek makes quality equipment, and we look forward to working with them again in the future."

"TTI Oil is a great customer with a vision for what the future of fabrication looks like," said Ryan Althausen, Business Development Manager, Pemamek LLC. "They are taking steps now to grow and be very competitive in the market for years to come."
