Graphite CNC Machining Capabilities

Ohio Carbon Blank, a supplier of graphite for the moldmaking industry, recently expanded its capabilities to include graphite CNC machining services to provide CNC-milled and turned graphite products specific to customer needs.

From prototyping to on-demand production requirements, Ohio Carbon Blank's in-house engineering, manufacturing and quality assurance teams have the capabilities to machine custom graphite products to exact specifications for a range of products.

"The most recent upgrade to our machining capabilities includes the FARO Arm and Keyence dimensional inspection systems," said Dale McCartney, General Manager. "These systems allow effective CAD-to-part inspection with precise inspection of print tolerances. For many applications, the advanced technology allows inspection of multiple parts randomly at one time with minimal set-up and programming."

CNC machined graphite products, such as EDM electrodes, are commonly defined from the end-product geometry and require minimal design assistance. However, specialized EDM applications and many custom graphite prototyping projects often require development assistance for workholding, minimizing material usage or manufacturability. Ohio Carbon Blank's experienced engineering staff can assist and answer questions regarding specialized graphite needs.

"Our CNC milling machines and quick-change fixturing provide high productivity for a variety of graphite product shapes with tolerances and surface finishes to customer specifications. Our maximum part size is typically 16 in. x 20 in. x 36 in. but is always reviewed for multi-position set-ups to extend our capabilities," said McCartney.
