Workshops for Warriors Receives $50,000 Grant from Verizon Foundation

Workshops for Warriors, a nonprofit assisting veterans who are transitioning into civilian life through training, certification and job placement, has received a $50,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation.
The philanthropic arm of the communication technology giant made the contribution in an effort to support advanced manufacturing training for veterans.
"We are grateful for organizations like the Verizon Foundation that understand the importance of what we are trying to accomplish," said Hernn Luis y Prado, Founder of Workshop for Warriors. "It costs $10,000 to train a student every semester. These grants directly support our mission to prepare veterans and wounded warriors for advanced manufacturing careers."
The Verizon Foundation is focused on using technology to solve critical social issues in the areas of sustainability, education and health care. Through the support of Verizon's employees, the nonprofit arm helps address the needs of communities around the world.
Founded in 2008, Workshops for Warriors provides veterans and injured vets with training in CNC machining, CAD/CAM programming and welding. Since 2011, 194 veterans and wounded warriors have been trained on-site and received third-party nationally recognized credentials, with 100% of graduates obtaining jobs in advanced manufacturing.
