ANCAMotion has introduced its new Australian-designed and manufactured LinX Linear Motor.
"The LinX Linear Motor is designed to be an efficient, high-performance cylindrical motion system that provides improved performance at lower cost when compared to conventional flat linear motors. The motors are fully sealed and can offer protection rating of IP69k, making it perfect for machine tool and food processing systems," said a company spokesperson. The LinX Linear Motor range is available in different sizes to allow for application specific solutions.
"The control systems group have designed a cylindrical linear motor and specialized servo drive software that have none of the drawbacks of traditional flat platen motors," said Lucas Hale, ANCAMotion's Marketing Manager.
According to the company, the LinX Linear Motor is designed for easier alignment of magnets for faster machine build; safer handling of magnets to assist in employee safety; no back-iron with reduced cogging, allowing smoother motion for better surface finish; and zero net magnetic attractive forces, meaning no increase in downforce to wear rails or guideways leading to an extended machine life. Compared to ballscrews, according to the company, the LinX Linear Motor has no backlash or reversal errors, therefore resulting in better part quality. The higher acceleration speed and higher velocities of the linear motor are designed to yield improved cycle times.
"Since the motor has no mechanical parts to wear, it will offer a longer service life with less downtime for maintenance," said the spokesperson. "As the motor is non-contact, it requires no lubrication, which means less consumables and maintenance and less contamination of coolant oil with lubricant. Compared to cylindrical linear motors, the LinX Linear Motor also offers patent pending thermal barrier designed to separate and remove heat from the motor, meaning no thermal growth issues for the machine, and a patent pending lateral mounting cartridge which is an easier design to incorporate into an existing machine design."
According to the company, the LinX Linear Motor also requires no additional cooling system, which in turn reduces system cost and floor space. Used in conjunction with the ANCA Motion AMD5x servo drives with special algorithm for increased axis stiffness, the motor will also minimize axis deflection for increased accuracy.
