Intelligent 5-Axis Strategies
September 1, 2014
hyperMILL 2014 has new features for 5-axis rework machining. When converting toolpaths from 3-axis to 5-axis, different tool types can be used.
OPEN MIND Technologies AG will present its hyperMILL 2014 CAM suite. New features include advanced machining strategies in the areas of 5-axis drilling and roughing, plus a deformation tool in hyperCAD-S, OPEN MIND's native CAD option.
Drilling in Workplanes
This current hyperMILL extension is designed to make 5-axis drilling easier and safer. Instead of using global clearance planes, holes drilled in the same direction are now combined and defined via workplanes. The relative clearance planes of the infeed movements are then calculated automatically for the different planes. All the holes of a clearance plane form a job step.
Rework Machining
Five-axis rework machining has also been further optimized. When converting from 3-axis toolpaths to 5-axis toolpaths, different tool types, such as barrel and woodruff cutters, can now be used. There are also new strategies for adjusting the tool to the machining model. The function can also be used for the hyperMAXX high-performance cutting module.
CAD Deformations
hyperCAD-S, the CAD system for CAM programmers, has been supplemented with the Deformation module for the customized deforming of geometries. This modification tool allows the global or local modification of component areas, which is otherwise only possible with elaborate modeling techniques.
