Large Bed Type Vertical Mill with Horizontal Head
September 1, 2014
Sharp Industries, Inc. is offering a large bed type manual milling machine that can perform both vertical milling and horizontal milling operations.
Machine features include:
- 87" x 20" table, 59" x 24" travel
- Vertical head travels 25.5"
- Horizontal head travels 25.5" up and down
- Vertical spindle with 20 HP motor, #50 taper
- Horizontal spindle with 7.5 HP motor, #50 taper
- Weight 18,500 lbs.
With a fixed quill design and geared head construction, the vertical head is designed for heavy cutting with high accuracy. Vertical travel of the head is controlled by a tri-handle lever mounted at eye level in front of the head. The horizontal head is attached to the side of the column and is driven by its own 7.5 HP motor. Vertical movement of the horizontal head is driven by AC servo motor on precision ballscrews and is controlled by an electronic handwheel (Manual Pulse Generator). According to the company, this allows simple and easy operation on horizontal milling operations.
Movement of the table and saddle is controlled by a four-way toggle, and the dial-operated speeds are variable. Table, saddle and spindle are locked by pneumatic power. For easy clamp and unclamp of the tools, the spindle is equipped with power draw bar.
This heavily built machine features hardened and ground box ways. It is made from castings with honeycombed ribbing for added rigidity. The ways are precision scraped for full bearing support, and adjustable backlash eliminators are installed for long lasting accuracy.
