The RMGFS class of 2013.
The Annual KAPP NILES Rocky Mountain Gear Finishing School (RMGFS) will be held this year October 8 - 10 in Boulder, CO. Designed to benefit gear manufacturing engineers, machine operators and production managers as well as gear designers, the program is both methodical and experiential and teaches to all types of learners.
The RMGFS teaches advances in profile and generating gear grinding through standard classroom presentations and shop floor training. Participants study the principals and mechanics behind different gear finishing processes, apply them through practical lessons on a KAPP or NILES machine, and then attend smaller workshops for discussion. By reinforcing the morning presentations with afternoon hands-on sessions, content retention is greatly increased. In addition, workshops give participants a platform to explore their own applications. An in-depth review of CBN non-dressable solutions is also presented, and a tour of KAPP Technologies' CBN-plated tool production plant shows the sequential steps in the plating of a CBN tool.
"Gear making is more satisfying when there is a solid foundation of gear finishing knowledge," said Bill Miller, Vice President of Sales for KAPP NILES in North America. "It inspires engineers and technicians because they can apply the methods that directly benefit their company and customers. The extensive one-on-one interaction with instructors and other students yields further benefits."
"RMGFS is not limited to KAPP-NILES customers, but for many existing customers it has become an annual event, with some companies sending different employees each year," said a company spokesperson. "Class size is intentionally kept small in order to generate a higher quality learning environment. Participants are encouraged to bring their own specific application questions or problems to solve during workshops, panel discussions or one-on-one with applications engineers."
Classes are held from Wednesday, October 8, to Friday, October 10 (until noon). The last day is reserved for specific interests, such as extra time with KAPP NILES applications engineers at the machines, or alternatively, a tour through a local gear manufacturer's factory.
