Massachusetts Student Wins Laguna Tools CNC School Contest

Laguna Tools has announced the winner of its 2013 CNC School Contest. The contest, open to all high school, college and university students enrolled in a diploma or degree program, invited brief essays on the type of product they would make with a Laguna Tools computer numerical control (CNC) machine.

The winning essay, chosen from several hundred entries, was submitted by Luke Grant, a senior at the North Adams, MA, Drury High School. His essay centered on his desire to create molds that could be used to shape fiberglass or carbon fiber into body panels for an entry in the Tour De Sol solar power vehicle rally.

"I saw entering the contest as a way to use some of what I have learned in Advanced Placement Language Arts," said Grant.

Catherine Helshoj, Laguna Tools Vice President, said, "We are proud and happy to make the award to Luke and Drury High School. The woodworking classes at Drury High School participate every year in community service learning projects. I am told they will use the award to fix some shop equipment that had been idled by lack of repair funds."
