Press for Heated Compression Molding
December 1, 2013
Beckwood Press Company partnered with an aerospace company to develop a custom hydraulic heated platen press for use in the high-density compression molding of aerospace cabin interiors.
The 800 ton hydraulic press, which is integrated with hot oil heated platens, is designed for accurate and uniform heating across the 60" x 108" bed and ram.
The press, sized per the customer's application requirements, features 48" of stroke, dwell capability for holding precise pressure on the part for extended periods of time and mirrored light curtains to help ensure operator safety.
"Beckwood's control engineers worked closely with the customer to create a user-friendly, yet capable control system that includes full recipe functionality," said a company spokesperson. "Operators have the ability to program and save pressure and position values, temperature specifications, desired dwell time and bump sequences for the controlled release of gases that build up during the customer's thermoforming process."
More information about the press can be found by visiting Beckwood's website and typing in "411" in the press example search, located at the bottom left side of the homepage.
