"If your custom machine design needs a compact spindle and clamping unit, then the Powerhold Workhead is the ideal solution," said a Powerhold spokesperson. The Powerhold Workhead is essentially a pneumatic actuator and collet-nose spindle in a single compact design. Standard models range from a 1C collet unit that is smaller than a 4.5" cube, to a model that includes a 10" three jaw chuck. The most common model comes ready to accept all 5C collet tooling.
The Powerhold Workhead was developed for secondary machining operations such as deburring, chamfering and polishing, but has been used in applications ranging from trimming metal seals, to load testing of electric motors, to manufacture of golf tees, garage door openers and glow sticks.
This self-contained, pneumatically operated unit requires up to 90 PSI air, and can be designed to mount to any table or machine base (safety guard must be supplied by customer). The pulley drive allows use with a variety of AC or DC electric or air motor drives. Dead length designs, special mounting bases and a range of other options are available.
