5-Axis CNC Wire EDM
July 1, 2013
The AccuteX SP-500i 5-axis CNC wire EDM features the new generation MST-II Microsparking Technology. "AccuteX's MST-II utilizes Embedded Programmable Gate Array (EPGA semiconductor) within its CNC control to simultaneously discharge the proper amount of energy directly to the servo unit, stabilizing spark to cut and producing fine finishes for the aerospace and medical industries," said a company spokesperson.
The XYZ working range is 19.7" x 11.8" x 11.8". U and V axes are both 3.9". The UV axis mechanism is placed in a cabinet above the working area for rigidity and protection from humidity and physical damage. The axes are driven by means of closed-loop AC servo motors with 0.000004" resolution and controlled by a linear glass scale feedback system. The SP-500i also incorporates the latest generation ball-retainer type guideways reducing 90% friction variation compared to conventional guideways, according to the company.
The SP-500iA is equipped with an annealing, fully automatic wire threading system (AWT) with a tip disposal unit. AccuteX's servo control wire threading technology, together with multi-detectors, are intended to provide reliable (threading at wire break point) automatic wire threading.
The SD Master (stable discharge) is a standard accessory that powers the servo system and is designed to reduce wire breakage during production. Stabilizing the discharge of electrolysis through the cutting wire also raises machining repeatability to produce accurate and consistent parts. Remote Master allows real-time monitoring of cutting time, efficiency and status of a particular job from within the office or home PC. "There is no need to worry about capability with any CAD/CAM system because the feature has been written for allowing comprehensive software integration," said the spokesperson. "Remote Master also allows an operator to assign machining jobs from a distance and begin cutting immediately."
Depending on different cutting data, wire diameter, angle and workpiece thickness, the Accutex CE based Windows control coupled with Corner Control automatically sets the best parameters to maintain the best corner cutting performance. Anti-Crash Protection is an optional feature on all axes (XYUVZ). Rapid traverse rates are as high as 51.1" per minute with simultaneous wire feedrates of 0-590" per minute using electrode wire diameter ranging from .004" - .013".
The machine body was designed by Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and features a Meehanite cast column mounted on oversized UVZ axes and reinforced lower arm to increase stiffness.
