Automated Plasma Cutting Robot

Robotic Solutions, Inc. has created a plasma cutting robot cell that features a dual chuck design to allow bar feeding and synchronized rotation of the part being produced with little set up.
"The integration of a dual sided end effecter, including a plasma cutter on one side and a stud welder on the other, makes this 6-axis KUKA robot an efficient piece of machinery," said a company spokesperson. The chucks automatically adjust to pipes measuring up to 8" in diameter, square or rectangular, that can be loaded into the workspace and cut to users' specifications. Bevels, holes, slots and other features can be cut.
Robotic Solutions uses the dual chuck design, CAM software and the KUKA robot to take a schematic of a part and cut multiple parts on the course of one production run. The system allows the user to program the parts needed, run the cycle and produce multiple parts off of the same stock. Once a part is completed the final cut is made to remove it from the pipe and the dual chuck system moves the remaining stock forward to cut the next part.
"We increased accuracy by rotating and feeding the part being cut, versus moving the robot around the part," said the spokesperson. "It also allows us to get 360° of access and auto-feeds for the next setup."
