Manufacturing Platform Purpose-Built for the Unmanned Systems Industry

Kinetyc, a U.S.-based contract manufacturer, introduced FLEXembly, its modular assembly and end-of-line testing platform designed to help unmanned and autonomous system innovators scale production quickly, compliantly, and without the capital burden of building dedicated manufacturing infrastructure.

As demand for domestically produced unmanned systems accelerates-driven in part by Executive Order 14307 and growing national security imperatives to strengthen the U.S. defense industrial base-many unmanned aircraft system (UAS) companies face a critical bottleneck: scaling from prototype to production. Most lack the facilities, quality systems, and regulatory infrastructure to manufacture at volume while meeting defense and commercial compliance requirements.

"The unmanned systems industry is at an inflection point. The innovation is there, the demand is there, and the policy tailwinds are there-but production capacity has not kept pace," said Scott Cieslak, President of Kinetyc. "FLEXembly gives drone companies a faster, smarter path to scale. We have built the manufacturing infrastructure, the quality systems, and the compliance framework so that our customers can focus on what they do best-building the mission. We are not asking innovators to wait. We are ready now."

FLEXembly operates out of Kinetyc's 110,000-sq.-ft. facility in Wixom, MI.

Features of FLEXembly include:

  • Flexible U.S. assembly cells-Currently configured at 2,500 SF with seven stations, scalable to 10x or more to meet demand surges
  • High-mix production architecture-Line-balanced process flow with MES-based digital work instructions and full configuration control, enabling rapid model changeover across multiple UAS platforms
  • Integrated end-of-line testing-In-process testing loops and a dedicated test flight cage help ensure quality validation before pack-out
  • Additive manufacturing and tooling-On-site Multi Jet Fusion (MJF), FDM, and extrusion capabilities, plus injection molding support (32 presses, 180T-2,500T) and Kern 800 laser cutting
  • Automated pack-out-Streamlined kitting-to-shipment workflow designed for production rate output
  • Production capacity-20,000 to 60,000+ units per year, depending on bill-of-materials complexity and operating pattern
  • Ready for immediate deployment.

Kinetyc has invested early and deliberately in the compliance architecture that defense and critical-infrastructure customers require:

  • ISO 9001 certified
  • AS9100 certification in progress
  • CMMC-compliant IT systems
  • NDAA-aligned U.S. manufacturing
  • ITAR registration
  • Full traceability via deployed PICO Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
  • In-house supply chain team for component sourcing and vendor management.
