FPT Industries and Fadal Bring High-Speed Machining to North America

Staying on course with its five-year strategic expansion initiatives, MERRILL Technologies Group has significantly enhanced its portfolio of machinery by adding several new FPTs, including the DinoMax, Raptocut and RONIN. This was made possible by a partnership between Italian company FPT Industries and Fadal Precision Technologies to bring more of FPT's machining solutions to America.

The Raptocut, a palletized horizontal milling machine with a spindle speed of 28,000 RPM at 140 HP, expands MERRILL's production capability with a machining envelope of 275.5" x 39.7" x 98.4" and cutting speed of 2,000 IPM for aluminum alloy parts.

Bob Yackel, President and CEO of MERRILL, said, "We made a conscious decision to partner with a company that understands the changing needs of the manufacturing landscape. We have invested in FPT since 1998, and our experience has been extremely positive. Timely delivery, installation and professional and quick service response has helped our just-in-time manufacturing process."

Prior to the most recent installation of the Raptocut, MERRILL had invested in an FPT Dinomax, a 20' x 10' vertical gantry machine. The Dinomax features automatic head changing capabilities, giving MERRILL the flexibility to machine a broad spectrum of materials from Inconel to composites. "This is the flexibility we are after," said Yackel, "to machine a range of materials with the largest machining envelope possible." MERRILL plans to continue the relationship with FPT and will purchase additional equipment in the future to further expand production capabilities.

For over 52 years, FPT has produced accurate, high-speed, multi-axis machines. FPT is now bringing its precision, high speed technology to North America. "The growth of the company has never slowed down over the years," said Ezhil Viswanathan, Vice President of FPT North America. "You can expect this type of growth from a company that has proven its manufacturing and commercial strategies. We have become known for our technology, accuracy and reliability. The key to success is our ability to generate new ideas through continuous research and development of new processes, products and most importantly, services."
