The BURKHARDT+WEBER (BW) line of ultra-compact CNC machining centers is available in 4-axis and 5-axis configurations. These machines are rigid and flexible by their design features and oversized component selection.
BURKHARDT+WEBER has now expand this series into the 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.4" x 39.4") pallet size. Compact and powerful with state-of-the-art digital technologies, this new machine is addressing 4-axis and 5-axis needs for work envelopes with up to 1,500 mm (59.0") swing and 1,500 mm (59.0") part heights. The machine fits most machining applications and materials in all industries using metalcutting machinery.
This MCC 1000 has axis travels of 1,400 x 1,200 x 1,600 mm (55.1 x 47.2 x 63.0") in X-, Y- and Z-axis with a 1,000 x 1,000 mm pallet size. The advantages of an easy access twin pallet changer make it unique and also ideal for loading via overhead crane or overhead gantry without compromising the payload capacity of 2,500 kg (5,500 lbs.) per pallet. Furthermore, the MCC 1000 integrates all benefits of the larger BW machines, such as accuracy, high stiffness and reliability and it is economical.
The MCC series 4-axis models feature a 300 Nm, 30 kW (221 ft., 40 HP) motor spindle, (100% duty rated) for high speed uses. For high torque requirements, an option with 1,300 Nm, 41 kW (959 ft-lbs., 55 HP) 2-step geared spindle, (100% duty rated) for spindle speeds up to 10,000 RPM is available.
The MCC series 5-axis models offer a new, rigid, dynamic A-axis concept with a 30 kW (40 HP) motor spindle (100% duty rated). Developed by BW, the A-axis has a large swivel range for maximum flexibility. Spindle speeds up to 15,000 RPM are available with a low-end torque of up to 300 Nm.
Additional feature options can incorporate line-boring, rigid static turning using BURKHADT+WEBER facing heads with CNC feed-out slides, system integration into linear storage systems or overhead gantry loading and more.
Of note is the high tool load capacity of 40 kg (88 lbs.). The machine swing size is not reduced by using long cutting tools up to a length of 650 mm (25.6"). Attachment heads can be securely clamped against the spindle nose, by a precision hydraulic head clamping unit, and are loaded automatically via the BW tool changer unit.
The MCC machine series is ready for smart manufacturing. By providing networked status information, the user's central data systems are able to organize production and maintenance in a predictive manner to reduce downtime and ultimately increase machine availability.
"Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the MCC series is not only effortlessly linked, but is also ready for digital networking in self-organizing production processes and can be fully integrated into the customer's MES infrastructure," said a company spokesperson.
