Band Saw Blades and Hole Saw PowerCalc Program

The L.S. Starrett Co. will be showing its latest band saw blade solutions, including Versatix MP bi-metal band saw blades, at FABTECH 2018. A new web-based PowerCalc program to determine the correct Starrett Hole Saw, operating speeds and power tool or machine for the application at hand will also be demonstrated.

Among the company's broad range of band saw blades, Starrett will be highlighting its Versatix MP bi-metal band saw blades featuring triple-tempered, high-speed M-42 cobalt steel teeth with an alloy steel backing strip. The blade has a patented tooth design that dissipates stress during cutting, reducing tooth breakage and increasing blade life. In addition, its special tooth set minimizes pinching making it suitable for cutting structurals and bundles.

Versatix MP band saw blades include an exclusive Starrett technology called bi-metal unique. Starrett bi-metal unique joins two strips of high-speed steel wires to the backing steel using Solid-State Diffusion Bonding. Instead of a single wire welded to the outside of a steel backer, this process bonds two strips of high-speed steel to each side of the top edge of the steel backer, using intense heat and pressure. "The bonding area between the backer and the high-speed steel is increased 170% over conventional electron beam or laser welding processes. This new process creates a stronger, longer lasting blade," said a company spokesperson.

A new web-based Hole Saw PowerCalc program determines which bi-metal, carbide tipped, diamond grit or arbored hole saw is best suited for an application. Input parameters include specifying the material to be cut, and the hole diameter and thickness. Printable results display the Starrett hole saw item number with a link to the product, as well as a recommendation for the proper operating speeds and power tool or saw machine.

Starrett offers a range of band saw blades including bi-metal for cutting a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, and carbide tipped, which are ideal for cutting extremely hard, abrasive materials. Band saw blades coated with carbide grit and diamond grit cut abrasive materials with precision, producing an enhanced finish. Other saw products include hole saws, jig and reciprocating blades, hacksaw blades and portable band saw blades. A complete line of carbon blades is also available for horizontal and vertical machines with manual or gravity feed. The Starrett team of saw experts can help select the right saw blade, set up band saw machines and help customers maximize their sawing operation.
