Toolroom Lathe with Manual and CNC Capabilities

Babin Machine Tool, Brockton, MA, has announced a toolroom lathe with both manual and CNC capabilities: the TML-5Cnc. "Both experienced lathe operators and those new to running a lathe will quickly become productive using the TML-5Cnc due to its ease of use and familiarity," said a company spokesperson. The lathe is suitable for shops looking for a combination lathe that is built for precision prototyping and modeling work.

Engineered and built in Brockton, MA, the compact lathe features a wide dovetail bedplate design for rigidity, a 5 HP direct drive spindle to 3,500 RPM, precision ball screws and the USA made Centroid T400 CNC control.

The electronic manual hand wheels offer original manual hand wheel feel, look and layout and provide smooth machine tool movement. Teach Mode is built-in to the included Centroid conversational programming software, Intercon. Teach mode allows the operators to create the first part manually and then run copies of the part automatically with CNC. When using the TML-5Cnc there are four ways to create parts: manually, with conversational programming, G and M codes and with a CAD/CAM system. The control is equipped with USB ports for easy file transfer and also allows the operator to use a third party CAD or CAD/CAM system on the control. The Centroid CNC includes a standard 15" touchscreen LCD display, conversational and G-code programming, run time part graphics and .0001" resolution and repeatability. The fill-in-the-blank tool and part location set-up menus make setting up the machine easy and simple. Optional glass scale feedback is available along with workholding and tooling packages.
