Summit Machine Tool offers a wide range of large spindle bore lathes for demanding machining applications. Lathes in this category have spindle bores from 6" to 14", with large swings and a variety of available bed lengths. With the oil industry and energy sector rebounding, these machines are suited for both shop and field work.
The smallest of these is Summit's Big Hole Lathe Series. These lathes come in 26", 30" and 33" swings, 6.1" or 9.1" spindle bore, and bed lengths from 80" up to 200". The apron is designed for ease of operation and quick selection of direction of feed, threading or four-way rapid traverses. Wide 18" bed ways and an included extended length taper attachment allow for a variety of workpieces.
"Summit's Big Swing Geared Head and Variable Speed Lathes have unprecedented depth as well as large 6.1" spindle bores," said a Summit spokesperson. The extra wide 27.5" bed is fully ribbed closed grain casting. This series comes in 35", 42" and 52" swings and bed lengths from 60" up to 240". Standard features include precision bearing spindle, feed reversing at the apron, and six-way rapid traverses.
"Summit's Hollow Spindle Oil Country Lathes spotlight precision and rugged reliability with a variety of sizes and options," said the spokesperson. The 42" swing series offers center distances from 80" up to 360", and spindle bores from 6.1" up to 14.1". Standard on the 9", 10", 12" and 14" hole models in the hydraulic rapid threading device that provides semiautomatic threading at the touch of a button. The headstock in this series is designed with straight cut final drive gears to provide quiet and efficient operation through the full range of spindle speeds. Not only does this series offer wide 22" bed ways, there is an additional third way on the front of the bed for additional support to the carriage.
The Euro 39" Hollow Spindle Series is designed for heavy-duty precision with options to cover a wide range of work pieces. This series is available with 10", 12" and 14" spindle bores, and center distances from 60" up to 240". The quick-change gearbox allows easy selection of inch, metric and module threads in a wide range of sizes. The headstock is designed with straight cut final drive gears that provide quiet and efficient operation through the full range of spindle speeds. And the huge forged spindles are mounted in precision angular contact spindle bearings for axial and radial load.
