Tooling U-SME has released a series of online welding training classes to prepare and equip workers to meet the rising demand for skilled welders. The organization is building upon its existing training resources for all manufacturers to provide welding professionals with the knowledge and skills required to operate advanced tools and technologies.
"The welding industry will face a shortage of 290,000 operators by 2020, primarily due to the aging population of current welders and a skills gap of qualified employees to fill open positions," said a company spokesperson. "Tooling U-SME facilitates progress in the manufacturing community by helping companies leverage investment in technology and people. The organization developed the new series of welding classes out of the need to train, grow and maintain a competitive workforce that can effectively work with welding technologies. These classes offer additional multimedia enhancements and engagement to deliver users with a rich learning experience."
In addition to competency-based learning for all levels of manufacturing employees, educators use Tooling U-SME products and services to augment their learning plans, which allows instructors to devote more time to hands-on instruction. The organization's suite of products and services include more than 500 online classes, 60 instructor-led courses, hundreds of books and videos, certification, learning and development consultation and custom content.

Tooling U-SME partnered with Lincoln Electric on class programming to ensure students are learning from a curriculum based on the latest industry criteria.
