Universal Modular Fixture Reduces Fixture Costs and Changeover Time
March 1, 2016
Universal Modular Fixture combines concepts from Royal Machine & Tool's Modular Chain Fixture and C-Frame Fixture models.
With the introduction of its new Universal Modular Fixture, Royal Machine & Tool has combined the design concepts of two of its most popular fixtures currently used in the valve industry: Modular Chain and C-Frame Fixtures. "The modular fixture will provide greater flexibility by covering a large range of valve bodies with a single fixture," said a company spokesperson.
Guy Byrne, Senior Vice President and General Manager, said, "Our Universal Modular Fixture combines the best of both models by using the adjustable vee rails of the Modular Chain Fixture and a top clamp similar to the C-Frame design.
"The adjustable vee jaws allow users to grip and locate on various size diameters, eliminating custom work nests for each part. The adjustable top plate provides a single universal top clamp with the ability to adjust the grip centerline for each valve.
"This Universal Modular Fixture design offers our customers another option for their fixturing. The eliminating of work nests and top jaws allows more flexibility and reduces fixture costs and changeover time."
The standard Royal C-Frame Fixture is a design that cradles the part in a work nest that is specifically fitted to a particular part on the upper and lower portion of the fixture. "Implementing the modular fixture as the lower work nest provides ample adjustments to be made in order to grip different sized parts without having to purchase custom fitted work nests that have to be unbolted each time and then replaced with the correct work nest for an individual part number," said the spokesperson.
