Continuous Machining Operations in a Small Footprint

Absolute Machine Tools is offering the Seiki KM Series high-speed vertical machining center (VMC). "Its compact size consumes very little floor space while its rigidity and speed deliver more parts per hour," said a company spokesperson.

Featuring a Meehanite cast iron frame and rigid roller-type linear slideways for high rigidity and fast, precise movement, the KM Series 36 mm to 40 mm diameter class 3 ballscrews feature a double-nut, pre-loaded design allowing a standard rapid traverse rate of 1,417 IPM in all three axes with acceleration of 0.7 to 0.8G. The machine?s absolute pulse coder (ABS) servo system does not require zero return, so the machines can be started any time, from any position for continuous production. A standard bed flushing system and caterpillar-type chip conveyor located behind the unit provide efficient chip removal.

The Seiki KM series machines are equipped with a 30-tool twin arm type automatic tool changer for fast, reliable tool selection. Complete tool change time is 1.5 to 1.7 seconds tool-to-tool and 2.9 to 3.4 seconds chip-to-chip. The standard 32 HP (peak)/15 HP (continuous) 12,000 RPM direct drive spindle, available with spindle chiller as standard, provides rigid tap speeds up to 6,000 RPM. Rigidity is further strengthened by the CAT-40 BIG PLUS dual contact taper.

The machining center's Mitsubishi M80A control features a 10.4' touchscreen with intuitive smartphone-type operation and a dedicated CNC CPU for fast processing speeds. A new servo system with 1 million pulse encoders allows for increased speed and accuracy. The Seiki KM Series is also available with a FANUC OiM-F Plus control with 10.4' LCD.

"Seiki's KM Series high-speed VMCs come in four different models to accommodate the different needs of our customers,"said Nicole Conrad, Chief Marketing Officer, Absolute Machine Tools. "But all of the machines have consistent high-volume, high-precision machining capabilities for manufacturers that need to produce parts quickly and accurately."
