Wireless Plasma Operator Control Pendant

Centroid has added a wireless operator control pendant to its Acorn Plasma CNC controller system. The new control pendant allows the operator to take the controls to where the work is.

"Featuring robust wireless technology, the new pendant is perfect for increased operator efficiency especially with plasma tables 4 ft. x 4 ft. and larger," said a company spokesperson. "Plasma machine controls, such as Restart Mode, are now at your fingertips and allow the operator to quickly pick back up in the middle of a cut in the event of an interruption accurately and quickly using the new controller to position the torch for the restart without having to use the main CNC console for this task."

The operator can use the controller to jog forward and backward along the cut path and choose the restart point. Restart lead-ins are easy to create by simply jogging off the path at the chosen restart point to the desired restart pierce point. One-button Dry Run allows the operator to run the job without the torch running to first check things out. Torch Check is used to check the torch consumables and can be pressed at any time: the machine will stop and move to a predetermined Torch Check position for the operator to check the condition of the torch consumables, replace if necessary and restart right where they left off.

The MPG wheel is used to jog any machine axis easily and naturally-rotate the 100 step per revolution MPG wheel to move the torch into position. The operator has selector switches for each axis and the speed of machine jogging. A Laser Set XY zero button activates a laser cross hair that the operator jogs to the start position of the cut to be made, and with one button press the start position is set. The MPG wheel can also be used as a Feedrate Override knob that allows the operator to vary the cutting speed of the machine on the fly. Similarly, the MPG wheel can be used to adjust the Torch Target Voltage while the machine is cutting so the operator can tweak in the torch height.

The wireless pendant has an LCD display so the operator knows the position of the torch at all times, which is convenient when setting up jobs far from the CNC control console. The Wireless MPG controller runs on two regular AA batteries, which last about one month of operation, the company reported. The wireless transceiver plugs into a Windows 10/11 computer via USB port and the drivers are automatically installed. The wireless pendant has magnets built into the unit that are handy for using and storing the pendant as well as a slot for L bracket mounting.

The controller is wrapped in a thick removable rubber jacket that protects the device from typical daily CNC use. The domed buttons on the unit provide tactile feedback and the button graphical overlay is made from high quality 3M material. Designed to be used with the Centroid Acorn Plasma CNC controller, all items are in-stock at Centroid's Pennsylvania facility with next day shipping.
