Process-Oriented Die & Mold Manufacturing Solutions

Complex components, high demands on precision and the required productivity are crucial factors that determine tool and mold making across all industries-from packaging and medical engineering up to automotive engineering.

DMG MORI offers a variety of machine tools to meet diverse requirements. While the portal and gantry series are used in the production of large components, the DMU 60 eVo linear, DMU 50 3rd Generation with PH automation system, DMU 85 monoBLOCK and DMU 90 P duoBLOCK are designed for small to medium size die/mold components.

DMG MORI covers the entire tool and mold making process, including 3D printing and repair of components utilizing the LASERTEC 30 SLM 2nd generation and the LASERTEC 65 DED hybrid. By utilizing the hybrid technology, materials of different thermal conductivity and hardness can be combined, which optimizes injection cycle times and increased wear resistance.

The comprehensive process orientation, standardization methods and automation solutions-for example pallet handling with the new driverless PH-AGV 50 (Automated Guided Vehicle)-help customers gain a competitive edge. Combined with the high performance of the DMG MORI products, customers can often achieve up to 6,500 spindle hours per year, depending on the machine, noted the company. The machines are increasingly used for complete machining as well. In automated systems, this results in enhanced planning flexibility and process chains that can be standardized more easily. By using technology cycles, safety requests as well as machine tunings adapted to the production process are implemented in the manufacturing process to further reduce the throughput times of components.

DMG MORI noted that it is these agile manufacturing solutions that will make a significant difference in the future with additive and surface-defining technologies due to the combination of traditional manufacturing technologies, if companies intend to work in a differentiated way in tool and mold making and be competitive.

Highlights of the LASERTEC 125 Shape:

  • Large components with a diameter of up to 1,250 mm x 700 mm and 2,600 kg, <19 sq. m installation area (without platform)
  • 100 W fiber laser with switchable pulse length and frequency of 10 kHz to 1,000 kHz
  • New Fast Scan Mode for machining at up to 4 m/s
  • New high-speed Z-shifter (optional) for machining 3D surfaces at up to 4 m/s (theor. 30 m/s)
  • Increased long-term accuracy due to monoBLOCK design and smartSCALE measuring systems from MAGNESCALE with resolution of 0.005 µm in the linear axes
  • Unlimited possibilities in the design of individual structures.
