Hole-Making Solutions

ISCAR BAYO T REAM offers tight tolerance, fine finish and fast feedrates in an interchangeable head reaming system. The solution is designed to reduce cycle time and downtime with one tool.

ISCAR offers a complete line of gundrilling and BTA deep hole drilling tools with solid, brazed and indexable carbide solutions.

ISCAR offers a complete line of drilling systems from 0.031" to 3.150" in diameter and depths up to 95" deep. Choose from solid carbide, replaceable head and indexable inserts designs. A large number of stock items are available to cover most applications with standard tools.

ISCAR's new LOGIQ3CHAM 3-flute drilling system provides increased productivity for drilling in most ISO-P steel and ISO-K cast iron materials. The system is designed to increase feedrates up to 50% in drilling 0.472" (12 mm) to 1.020" (25.9 mm) diameters with size selections in 0.004" (0.1 mm) increments.

ISCAR SUMOGUN is a gundrilling tool that accepts interchangeable heads from the standard SUMOCHAM line in diameters from 10 mm (0.394") to 25.9 mm (1.020") in 0.1 mm (0.004") increments, including three double-margin geometries. It offers two-flute gundrilling in standard mills and lathes or dedicated gundrill machines.

ISCAR TRIDEEP is an indexable insert, indexable guide pad gundrilling tool for standard mills, lathes or dedicated gundrill machines. Diameter range is from 12 mm (0.472") to 32 mm (1.260") in common metric and imperial inch sizes. The chip-splitter insert offers great chip control and has two or three indexes.

A hole is one of the most common features in part manufacturing. They vary in size from small to large, and they can be very shallow or deep. There are multiple ways to create a hole. Drilling is the most common and one of the most productive methods in the metal removal industry. Sometimes there are secondary operations in finishing a hole such as reaming, boring or threading. ISCAR offers a complete line of hole-making products including drilling, reaming, boring and threading tools.

Within the drilling line there are various tool types such as solid carbide, indexable insert and replaceable head drills. The SUMOCHAM line has been expanded to cover a diameter range from 4.0 mm (0.157") to 32.9 mm (1.295"). The drill bodies are available in lengths of 1.5xD, 3xD, 5xD, 8xD, 10xD and 12xD. There are also gundrill style bodies in 200 mm (7.87"), 250 mm (9.84"), 400 mm (15.75") and 800 mm (31.50") drilling depths. The drilling heads are available in 10 different standard geometries covering the range in 0.1 mm (0.004") increments. That means that each drill body will accept several different head sizes. There are also more specialized shanks that fit chamfer collars, mount in M12 Flex-Fit adapters and a variety of pre-thread bodies designed to drill and chamfer to specific tap drill sizes both inch and metric.

ISCAR now offers a three-flute exchangeable head drill called LOGIQ3CHAM. "With an extra flute you can expect to run up to 50% higher feedrates over conventional two-flute drills and see an increase in tool life in ISO-P and ISO-K materials," said a company spokesperson. The LOGIQ3CHAM covers a range from 12 mm (0.472") to 25.9 mm (1.020") in 0.1 mm (0.004") increments. Each body will accept a variety of head sizes. The bodies are offered in 1.5xD, 3xD, 5xD and 8xD drilling depths.

For applications that require larger diameters, the new CHAM-IQ700 line covers a range from 33 mm (1.299") to 40 mm (1.575") diameter. The blades are available in common metric and inch sizes. The bodies are offered in 1.5xD, 3xD, 5xD and 8xD drilling depths. There is also a modular system for deeper depths up to 12xD called MODU-DRILL. This system starts with two standard bodies that accept the CHAM-IQ700 head with interchangeable blades or a DR-DH head that uses standard DR-TWIST drill inserts.

The DR-TWIST line of indexable insert drills cover a range from 0.469 to 3.150 in imperial sizes and 12 to 80 in metric sizes. The bodies are offered in 2xD, 3xD, 4xD and 5xD drilling depths. The indexable inserts have four cutting edges and are offered in four different cutting geometries.

ISCAR also supplies solid carbide drills in a size range from 0.8 mm (0.031") to 20 mm (0.787") in common metric and inch diameters. These typically come in 3xD to 8xD. There are now some common metric and inch sizes available in 20xD, 30xD, 40xD and 50xD for the extra deep holes. Customers can also select three-flute drills, 3xD and 5xD depths, in a size range from 4 mm (0.157") to 12 mm (0.472"). These work to increase productivity in cast iron and carbon and alloy steels (ISO-K and ISO-P).

For deeper depth requirements, there are several deep hole solutions beyond the 12xD length. Typically, shops will choose gundrilling for this. ISCAR offers solid and brazed carbide solutions from 0.9 mm (0.035") to 40 mm (1.575") diameter. Customers can also choose indexable solutions beginning at 10 mm (0.394") diameter. As mentioned earlier, the SUMOGUN offers all the versatility of the SUMOCHAM line with double-margin and chip-splitter geometry heads. There is also TRI-DEEP, an indexable insert gundrill with guide pads from 12 mm (0.472") up to 32 mm (1.260") diameter in 10xD to 25xD and typical lengths for dedicated gundrill machines. For sizes and depths beyond this, there is the complete BTA Deep Hole drilling line. Diameters range from 8 mm (0.315") to beyond 750 mm (30"). Depths can be more than 30 meters (100'). Some designs can also be adapted to traditional CNC machining centers and lathes.

For hole finishing, ISCAR offers reamers, boring systems, taps and thread mills for traditional operations. For high-speed reaming ISCAR offers the BAYO-T-REAM replaceable head reaming system that can ream a hole to H6 tolerance. For higher H5 tolerance, ISCAR offers the INDEX-H-REAM indexable insert system.
