Ultramation Inc. Celebrates 50 Years
January 1, 2019
Ultramation is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
"W.C. Sandlin, Ultramation President, had a vision for solving problems for labor intensive manufacturing processes," said a company spokesperson. "One creative solution was the need for a precision sliding mechanism in assembly manufacturing. He designed a mechanism that used a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder, which would become the linear thruster used today in manufacturing." Sandlin and Ultramation Inc. hold the original U.S. patent for the linear thruster.
Linear thrusters consist of two or four shafts, as well as a moveable model, that are guided by linear bearings and are usually connected by a flat tooling plate on the end of the shafts. Pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders are used to extend and retract the tooling plate.
Ultramation's linear thrusters are manufactured in the USA. Standard units are normally shipped in one business day. Ultramation provides OEM linear thrusters for several manufacturing component providers as well.
