EDM Drilling Machines

Current EDM SOUTH-TEC CS400-5A: Model CS400-5A High Production 5-axis EDM Drilling Machine

Current EDM SOUTH-TEC CT400-5A: Compact Model CT400-5A EDM Drilling Machine

Current EDM, Inc. (CEI) has announced three EDM drilling machines.

Compact CT400-5A

This model is a production EDM drill for use in the general metalworking, medical, aero engine and power generation industries. The CT400 features a choice of either the Siemens M control or the more sophisticated Siemens 840D control. Depending on the application, a 25 amp (0.0012" ~0.080" dia. electrodes) or 57 amp (0.004" ~0.256" dia. electrodes) power supply is available. XYZ travels are 16" x 12" x 16" or 24" with a table capacity of 1,000 lbs.

CEI recently upgraded the Siemens 840Dsl control to handle tough EDM drilling applications. Features include expandable memory, program power settings and referencing cycles to simplify complex applications. Multi-level program lock-out security protects programs and process data from unwanted changes. Enhanced break-through detection programs ensure accurate and consistent depth control. Precision ball screws, high-torque Siemens motors and absolute encoders are used to provide precise positioning. The CT400-5A is configured with Nikken SW105 AB tables; add a 24-station tool changer. Teach pendant software capability enables programming and operation from the pendant.

New power supply modifications and software upgrades enable drilling with less side wear at the tip of the electrode, resulting in more consistent depth, diameter and faster drilling speeds. The automatic electrode changer has been upgraded to speed electrode exchanges and optimize electrode usage.

The enhanced programmable servo control, with advanced gap sensing, improves drilling stability and reduces electrode flexing, especially when using long, small diameter electrodes.

CS400-5A High Production 5-Axis

The Current EDM Model CS400-5A is a high production EDM drilling system in a compact floor space configuration of 48" x 60". The CS400 machine is designed to drill high production holes in complex turbine components and medical parts.

The model incorporates as standard a high-precision tilt-turn table configuration, fully integrated with the Siemens 840Dsl that positions the part for accurately drilling angled holes. Its ergonomic design and palletized tooling allow for easy loading of the workpiece. An automatic electrode changer and intergraded DI system are included as standard to provide a compact work cell.

Newly added or enhanced features:

  • An advanced shaped hole capacity, suited for the aerospace and power generation industries, is designed for drilling cooling holes and diffusor shapes.
  • Enhanced programmable servo control keeps very small diameter electrodes from flexing, even when drilling with long 0.012" diameter electrodes. It offers faster drilling times and improved accuracy detecting electrode break-through.
  • Upgraded power supply technologies for drilling with reduced electrode side-wear at the tip of the electrode, resulting in better hole diameter and depth consistency, faster drilling speed and more holes per electrode.

Upgraded CT500-5A Medium Capacity 5-Axis

The Current EDM Model CT500-5A is a production EDM drilling system with XYZ travels of 22" x 14" x 16" or 24". The CT500 machine is designed to drill high production holes in complex turbine components, medical parts and general applications.

The Model CT500-5A incorporates a choice of two Nikken AB table configurations, fully integrated with the Siemens 840Dsl that positions the part for accurately drilling angled holes. Its ergonomic design and palletized tooling allow for easy loading of the workpiece. Automated electrode and guide changing can be included as well as a complete low-maintenance Di system.

Newly added or enhanced features:

  • Advanced shaped hole capacity, suited for the aerospace and power generation industries, is designed for drilling cooling holes and diffusor shapes
  • Enhanced programmable servo control keeps small diameter electrodes from flexing, even when drilling with long, 0.012" diameter electrodes. It offers faster drilling times and improved accuracy detecting electrode break-through.
  • Upgraded power supply technologies for drilling with reduced electrode side-wear at the tip of the electrode, resulting in better hole diameter and depth consistency, faster drilling speed and more holes per electrode.
