BURKHARDT+WEBER (BW) has developed a horizontal machining center (HMC) in the 630 mm format machine size. Engineered to fit a standardized HMC market with 1,100 x 900 x 1,100 mm axis travel, it is suited for stand-alone machining needs and linked production lines. "It is compact, powerful and with up-to-date technology, addressing 4-axis and 5-axis needs," said a company spokesperson. It is designed to fit most machining applications and materials.
The new MCC, in 5-axis execution, was exhibited during EMO 2017. The MCC features a new, rigid, highly dynamic A-axis concept with a 30 kW motor spindle (100% duty rated). It has a large swivel range for maximum flexibility. It is available with up to 10,000 RPM and has a low-end torque of 300 Nm. "The advantages of an easy access twin pallet make it unique and also ideal for loading via overhead crane or overhead gantry without compromise for payloads up to 1,500 kg. Furthermore, the MCC integrates all benefits of the larger BW machines, such as accuracy, high stiffness and reliability," said a company spokesperson.
High torque machining is possible with the geared spindle 4-axis MCC, with 41 kW and 1,300 Nm of power.
This new machine series is ready for smart manufacturing. By providing networked status information, the users central data systems are able to organize production and maintenance in a predictive manner to reduce downtime and ultimately increase machine availability.
"Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the MCC series is linked and ready for digital networking in self-organizing production processes and can be fully integrated into the customer's MES infrastructure," said a company spokesperson.
