SLM Solutions Breaks Ground on Global Production Facility, Expands North American Office

SLM Solutions executives and local government officials break ground on the new global production facility and headquarters in Lübeck, Germany.

The SLM Solutions Group AG, a provider of industrial metal 3-D printing systems, has broken ground on a new facility in order to further modernize its production to meet market demand faster and with increased reliability. The company is also moving into new North American office facilities to provide the local market with more application and customer services.

Located in Lübeck, Germany, the new production site will feature over 750,000 sq. ft. of production, research and development, logistics and office headquarters.

"It is our dedicated aim to make our production and logistics fit for the future to optimize existing processes and to increase the delivery performance considerably," said Chief Financial Director Uwe Bögershausen.

The building is also being built as an energy efficient office space and will house a work force expected to double in the coming years. The first delivery to a customer from the new production site is scheduled for March 2018.

The North American headquarters has expanded to a new facility in Wixom, MI, offering over 13,000 sq. ft. of office, warehouse, lab and post-processing space. "With our growing customer base in North America, it was necessary for us to follow suit to meet the increasing demand for feasibility builds, process development and customer service," stated Mark Hoefing, President of SLM Solutions NA, Inc.

Richard Grylls, Technical Director for SLM Solutions N.A. Inc., added, "With three times more lab space, we have capacity to operate eight SLM systems to better support future and existing customers. Our new workshop is being outfitted with all-new auxiliary equipment, including a mill to finish plates, a band saw, heat treat furnace and downdraft table. A state-of-the-art modular chiller, air and argon system is also installed, including full argon exhaust and oxygen alarms. The new facility offers a dedicated training room where full training classes will soon be offered. Overall, this new facility offers the space and amenities to serve our customers for many years."
