New Ultra-Compact Contact Sensors

KEYENCE has released two new ultra-compact contact sensors with 1 mm and 5 mm stroke lengths. These advancements allow for use in narrow spaces and can be used in more applications. With the addition of these short-range models, KEYENCE's GT2 Series digital contact sensor lineup now includes a full-range of sensors to choose from. This wide offering allows for the ability to select the best solution based on measuring range, appearance, resolution, accuracy, mounting method or measuring force.

"Scale Shot System II" overcomes time-consuming origin adjustment and high-speed tracking errors that conventional contact-type measuring devices typically have, reported the spokesperson.

"The GT2 Series contact sensors can last over 200 million cycles without having to replace the sensor, resulting in decreased maintenance costs," said a company spokesperson. "A seamless structure allows for a dust-proof, watertight and oil-resistant contact sensor. These sensors can be used in the harshest of environments."

The GT2 Series can be easily integrated into existing systems with a variety of available communication protocols: EtherNet/IP, PROFINET/PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, CC-Link, RS-232C, BCD, TCP/IP, EtherCAT, output and analog output.

KEYENCE's new protection mounting brackets are designed to prevent damage from either horizontally applied force or over compression of the sensor.

In April 2016, KEYENCE released GT Monitor, the first dedicated software to compliment the GT2 Series. This software provided several benefits including real time data conversion and live updating of Excel worksheets, easy selection and customization of displayable items (measurements, target image, etc.), and multi-head calculation functions including max/min value, flatness and thickness. KEYENCE has now upgraded its dedicated GT2 software to include even more benefits including Ethernet (TCP/IP) connection, a user-defined operations function, automatic sensor head identification and support for multiple languages.
