Diversified Machine Systems (DMS) has announced continued advancements to its CNC machinery in response to emerging requirements regarding the machining of advanced materials such as composites, carbon fiber and silicon carbide.

"The DMS 5-axis enclosed overhead gantry CNC router offers features required by composites manufacturers, especially when component protection is a key priority," said a company spokesperson. The DMS CNC router's critical components are sealed and protected with bellows on the machine that are pressurized, so harmful debris does not affect components like rails, lead screws, rack and pinions, runner blocks, etc.

The tool changer also includes a sealed door that allows for tools to be protected outside of the work envelope for cleaner tool maintenance. Viton seals can also provide additional protection for runner blocks against possible contaminants on the surface of the rails.

"This fully enclosed CNC machine features an overhead gantry style system that keeps critical components functioning reliably over the workspace and harmful contaminants," said a company spokesperson. "To reduce the airborne dust within the enclosure, DMS provides dust extraction ports that can connect easily to existing dust collection systems. These features combined with operator-friendly safety options contribute to the easy maintenance, longevity of the machine and competitive return on investment.

"DMS CNC routers are used for cutting advanced materials such as silicon carbide and carbon fiber - some of the hardest, yet lightest and strongest of materials. Their low thermal expansion, resistance to acids, abrasive resistance and thermal conductivity makes it a popular material used within the aerospace, automotive and consumer goods sectors."
