Assisting Customers with Workholding Video Training

Instructional videos are available on DVD for specific topics ranging from operational sequence, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and testing of Royal Machine products.

Readily accessible videos can be viewed on Royal Machine's website and YouTube channel.

"Every day we read in manufacturing journals about the outcry for experienced help, and how new technology in manufacturing creates ever-increasing difficulties in training inexperienced and newly hired personnel and, specifically, how critical and costly it is to have quick access to appropriate training materials," said a Royal Machine and Tool Corporation spokesperson.

Years ago there were apprentice programs where new recruits in manufacturing would be trained under the wing of a person with many years of experience. Whether on the shop floor or in the office, the training period took time, and in other cases the apprenticeship would last for a few years. Today, this timely and costly tradition is still used, but by a very limited number of companies.

"Unfortunately, onsite company training time today is an ever-decreasing and no longer required function for a number of reasons," said the spokesperson. "These may include the following:

  • Today's Technology is changing at a much faster pace, sometimes creating havoc for a company in establishing its own training program.
  • Company training programs have become cost prohibitive for many companies, especially when combined with the lack of assistance from the government. In many areas companies have become reluctantly shy when the burden of training is on the company itself. After training, there is a fear that the new person will then move on to a different company.
  • Today's generation has a lack of interest and misconceptions about joining the manufacturing sector. There are simply fewer qualified people to train because they believe there is less job security in the manufacturing field because of modern technology, fierce and skilled employment competition, corporate buyouts and/or mergers and companies relocating to better business areas.
  • Customers today for the above reasons depend more and more on their vendors for free technical support and training."

"Royal Machine & Tool sees these as major issues for end users and has begun developing a series of instructional workholding training videos for its standard fixtures and chucks products. The realization that customers want instant access to instructions at no charge has prompted Royal Machine to develop instructional videos for specific topics ranging from operational sequence, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and testing of Royal Machine's workholding products," said the spokesperson.

"Currently five short and effective videos are readily accessible through Royal Machine's website and on YouTube."
