DMG MORI in Davis Celebrates Production of 1000th Machine

Together with the Digital Technology Laboratory (DTL), DMG MORI's manufacturing plant in Davis, CA, has developed into a center of excellence for future-oriented machining and automation technologies.

ecoTurn 450: The latest design evolution of ECOLINE with optimized ergonomics and greater stability

DMG MORI opened its North American manufacturing plant in Davis, CA, in July 2012 and celebrates the completed production of the 1,000th machine in 2015. With a production capacity of over 100 machines per month, DMG MORI domestically manufactures and assembles the NHX 4000 and NHX 5000 2nd Generation, NHX 6300, the DuraVertical 5100 and has recently added DMU 50, as well as the ecoTurn 450.

"The ECOLINE products are high-quality machines, and the ecoTurn 450's new design has numerous features: its optimized ergonomics and stable construction are designed for top precision, its high-technology components offer maximum efficiency, the wide variety of 3-D controls provide flexibility and the task-optimized options enable an upgrade of the machines right through to turn and mill complete machining," said a company spokesperson.

The U.S. manufacturing plant in Davis, CA, has over 221,000 sq. ft. The factory was built adjacent to the design center and Digital Technology Laboratory (DTL), which Mori Seiki developed 15 years ago as an R&D site, to research machine tool designs, controls and pallet systems. The establishment of the manufacturing plant in 2012 creates further opportunities for R&D in the U.S., and has an adept group of engineers on-site.

A total of 180 employees (production company 120, R&D company 60) are working at the Davis site to ensure efficiency in the production process, and overall, quick delivery of high-quality, state-of-the art machines. DMG MORI has established a design group in Davis to support product customization requests, as well as turnkey projects, which predominantly arise from the automotive industry. Projects range from multi-machine, complex work transfer systems to simple robot tending solutions.
