Simultaneous 5-Axis Milling Machine with Turning Capability

Expand Machinery offers a simultaneous 5-axis milling machine with turning, engraving, and skiving capabilities.

"Expand Machinery has long been offering machines focused on completing work with as few handlings as possible," said a company spokesperson. "The GENTURN PM320-5XT continues in that theme. This new offering is a high-precision, Japanese-built CNC milling machine featuring 0.1-micron resolution in a compact thermally stable, high-rigidity symmetrical structure for reduced vibration."

The tool changer holds 50 HSK E-40 tools in the standard configuration, and an HSK-32 64-tool carousel is optional. Tool-to-tool change time is 1.9 seconds. Spindle power up to 20 HP is offered, and spindle speeds up to 45,000 RPM are available.

An access door in the rear of the machine provides the ability to change tools without cycle interruption. Side access doors with windows on both sides of the machine allow for easy machine set-up and facilitates automation applications and easy chip evacuation. The machine features a 100 mm diameter worm-gear driven rotary work table with a tilt angle of -20/+120°. Space between the tool nose and the rotary table is 100 mm to 480 mm. Travel in the X-axis is 320 mm. The Y-axis travel is 340 mm with an additional 60 mm of ATC travel. There is 380 mm of Z-axis travel. The rapid traverse rates on all three linear axes is a fast 300 mm/minute. The work table turns at up to 2,000 RPM when being used in the lathe mode. The spindle is rigidly locked when in use to hold lathe tools during turning operations.

Renishaw part probing and BLUM tool probing systems are standard equipment, along with glass-scale feedback in all of the linear axes. A coolant chiller is standard, as well as automatic power cut-off and chip air blow. In order to maximize the 5-axis simultaneous production throughput, the advanced FANUC FS31i-B5+iHMI control is utilized to increase axes motion efficiency and minimize cycle time.

Expand Machinery will feature the PM320-5XT alongside additional Japanese-built, high-productivity machines at IMTS 2026 in Chicago, IL.
