Productivity in High Feed Milling Applications

NEOFEED is ISCAR's most recent product line introduction for high feed, rough milling applications. This new design combines the productivity of a high feed design with the cost effectiveness of square double-sided inserts with eight cutting edges per insert.

The cutters are available in two design configurations that differ in cutting edge approach angle: high feed with 12° cutting edge angle; moderate feed with 22.5° cutting edge angle. These two distinct designs (high feed, moderate feed) allow for tools to be better matched to the application/variables at hand, such as machine tool and workpiece geometry.

Another key characteristic of the NEOFEED design is a dovetail pocket that helps ensure rigid and reliable insert clamping, while alleviating cutting forces on the insert screw and providing the capability to withstand against the heavy loads consistent with high feed milling applications.

LOGIQ4FEED

LOGIQ4FEED is a versatile family of indexable cutters designed for high feed, rough milling applications. Key insert design attributes include a twisted and narrow double-sided insert with a "bone-shaped" profile and four cutting edges per insert. It is an insert design that provides positive entry angles, reducing cutting forces. The narrow shape allows for increased flute counts, adding to productivity. A secondary/internal cutting edge provides enhanced ramping capabilities, and the bone shape provides increased radial clearance to enhance the ability to work down steep/vertical walls and to mitigate trapping of previously cut chips. There are four different insert geometries designed for machining different materials under diverse cutting conditions:

  • T: Steel, ferritic and martensitic stainless steel, cast iron and hardened steel
  • HP: Austenitic stainless steel and high temperature alloys
  • RM-T: When encountering interrupted cutting conditions and/or when working near steep/vertical walls in steel, ferritic and martensitic stainless steel, cast iron and hardened steel
  • RM-HP: When encountering interrupted cutting conditions and/or when working near steep/vertical walls austenitic stainless steel and high temperature alloys.

LOGIQ4FEED is available in two subfamilies-04 mm and 08 mm. Cutters using the 04 mm inserts are available in a range from .5" through 2", and cutters using the 08 mm insert are available in a range from 2" through 5".

MICRO3FEED

ISCAR's MICRO3FEED is a versatile indexable system capable of performing in a wide variety of materials, including more difficult materials such as high temperature superalloys, titanium, austenitic and duplex stainless steel.

Available in diameter range from .375" through 1", the system is an economical solution capable of replacing solid carbide end mills being used for high feed applications. "Since high feed applications only engage the very tip of the tool, it is logical to look at indexable technologies as the main solution for these applications," said a company spokesperson.

To further the economic advantage, MICRO3FEED cutter heads for use with ISCAR's MULTI-MASTER system are also available. This provides users with versatility, since there is a wide variety of shanks (steel, carbide, heavy metal) available in various lengths, as well as integral type adapters (ER type, CAT, HSK, etc.), that allows users to customize tool assemblies to their exact needs.

MICRO3FEED tools feature:

  • Single-sided trigon inserts with three cutting edges
  • 17° cutting edge angle
  • Positive rake angle
  • Ramping capability
  • Internal coolant holes directed to each cutting edge.
