High-Speed Steel Geometry

Allied Machine and Engineering has announced the expansion of the T-A Pro high penetration drilling system-the high-speed steel geometry insert, also referred to as the "X" geometry.

"This super cobalt insert works as a drill-everything insert while lowering the risk for high-dollar value components," said a company spokesperson. "When functioning in less than ideal conditions, the high-speed steel geometry provides enhanced performance and chip formation in addition to process security when needed most. The redesigned body of the T-A Pro offers faster penetration rates, maximum coolant flow and excellent rigidity when utilizing the high-speed steel geometry."

The spokesperson continued, "With a tool life that rivals carbide, the high-speed steel geometry insert works well in almost every material class related to aerospace and defense manufacturing. Similar to other high-risk operations like tapping, drilling is typically to blame for most scrapped or reworked parts. However, utilizing the high-speed steel geometry insert provides the reassurance that the holemaking process will not cost valuable time or the potential loss of a part when machining expensive castings or forgings. Ultimately, even in the toughest cutting conditions, this insert provides excellent hole quality for components that consume a lot of machining time and must meet the rigorous demands of the industry."

T-A Pro's high-speed steel geometry insert series Z-3 is available in diameters ranging from .437" to 1.882" (11.1 mm to 47.8 mm).
