Students tour COE Press Equipment on Manufacturing Day.
COE Press Equipment hosted about 30 students from Utica High School on Manufacturing Day, Oct. 5. The company provided an overview of the variety of careers available in manufacturing and a tour of the various departments.
The day began with Hunter Coe, CEO, sharing his manufacturing experience and core belief that a company should feel like family and be a place to look forward to each day. Reid Coe, President, then conveyed the creativity involved in manufacturing and emphasized the need for skilled trades and COE's plan for an internship program.
The students were split into groups that rotated through informative sessions from various departments such as engineering, R&D, sales, machining and assembly. In assembly, they were given a hands-on project to build a roll feed by referencing a supplied bill of materials and blueprint. Throughout the tour, students were engaged with the executives and department managers.
"It is really important to us that we get these young people enthused about manufacturing as a career," said Coe. "We hope that by providing them a hands-on experience and helping them understand that everything they use each day is part of this industry will positively impact their view of manufacturing."
