Compact Control Unit for Servo Press Control

For intelligent servo press and torque press process control, Schmidt Technology Corporation offers the SCHMIDT PressControl 600 control unit.

"The modular PressControl 600 with integrated PLC and CNC can be used to operate, control and manage in a single axis configuration the company's seven electrically driven, energy efficient ServoPress modules and torque press, which have output forces up to 50,000 lbs.," said a company spokesperson. "The control provides the press user with 100% in-process press force/distance monitoring and provides a comprehensive process data acquisition and management capability. The SCHMIDT ServoPress with PressControl 600 is ideal for joining and forming operations, such as crimping, clinching, flaring, riveting and pressing compliant pins. The PressControl 600 provides repeatable accuracy and flexibility, and provides in-process quality assurance without additional peripheral equipment."

The PressControl 600 can be integrated into a single workstation or used as a module within an automated production line connected to the system control. The PressControl 600 will also control secondary automation operations.

Featuring an integrated force, position and speed control loop, the PressControl 600 controls the pressing process by relying on constant, real time process communication data and CNC feedback. The results for each press cycle are automatically captured and compared against user-established part parameter files that have been entered into the PressControl. The control verifies that the ram's force and distance fall within appropriately placed force/distance windows and stroke tolerances. The pressing performance data results are then displayed on the integrated touch-screen operator interface panel with high-resolution, 7" display.

The touch-screen menu is used to configure and control the pressing operation as well as set part parameters. Process performance data (dataset management) can be transferred via an Ethernet cable into the SCHMIDT DataBase software, which can be installed on one of the user's Windows-based desktop computers or servers. For future qualitative analysis, the DataBase software will store all data, including the full force/distance curve as well as the specific monitoring criteria set up to control the pressing process for that particular part. Then the data in CSV (.csv) file format can be imported into either the manufacturer's existing quality management system or into Q-DAS statistical process control software, where the SCHMIDT DataBase has been certified.
