Twin-Spindle CNC Lathe for High-Efficiency Production

Compact and automation ready, the MSC 5 DUO features an integrated stacked system for extended autonomous production without increasing floor space.

Dual A2-5 spindles and rigid BMT turrets power high-speed machining, while a split-bed design maintains precision by isolating vibration.

Servo-driven 3-axis gantry loader enables fast, precise spindle loading for continuous production.

Integrated stacking system supports hours of unmanned production-no additional floor space required.

EMAG has introduced the MSC 5 DUO twin-spindle CNC lathe designed to power high-efficiency, high-precision production. The new machine combines simultaneous machining, built-in automation and a compact footprint to maximize throughput and reduce per-part costs.

"Manufacturers across North America face growing pressure to increase output while controlling costs and managing a shrinking labor pool," said a company spokesperson. "EMAG's new MSC 5 DUO twin-spindle CNC lathe meets these demands head-on, combining simultaneous machining, fully integrated automation and a simplified control experience-all in a compact, cost-effective platform."

"The MSC 5 DUO is all about maximizing ROI," said Jeff Holtzapple, Business Development Manager at EMAG LLC. "We have taken proven EMAG technology and made it more accessible-delivering productivity, precision and flexibility that manufacturers need today."

Part of EMAG's Classic Series, the MSC 5 DUO is a front-loaded CNC turning center built for high-volume, soft turning applications in automotive, hydraulics, pneumatics and medical manufacturing. Twin synchronized spindles enable true simultaneous machining, reducing cycle time while maintaining dimensional accuracy.

At the core of the MSC 5 DUO is a split-bed design that physically isolates the two work zones-minimizing vibration transfer and maintaining accuracy across both spindles. This mechanical decoupling helps ensure long-term precision in demanding environments.

With speeds up to 4,500 RPM and up to 11 kW of power (optional), the MSC 5 DUO is equipped to handle a wide range of materials and part geometries. A broad torque band delivers consistent cutting performance across the speed range, while the A2-5 spindle nose supports chuck diameters up to 210 mm.

"The machine features a BMT turret with eight or optional 12 positions, offering increased rigidity and tool stability versus traditional VDI systems," said the spokesperson. "High indexing accuracy and fast tool changes are enabled by servo-driven positioning and hydraulic clamping."

Every MSC 5 DUO includes a fully integrated gantry loader with three servo-driven axes for fast, precise part handling. A standard part turner enables complete machining of both sides of the workpiece in a single set-up, eliminating secondary operations and reducing lead times.

A built-in stacker system for raw and finished parts provides several hours of autonomous production-without requiring additional floor space. This is suited for high-mix, low-attended production environments common across North American shops.

The MSC 5 DUO runs on a FANUC 0i-TF Plus control with intuitive programming and integrated process monitoring. Operators can program while the machine is running, enabling parallel production set-up. The system supports data collection and can be integrated into MES and ERP environments via standard interfaces.

The MSC 5 DUO offers high-end twin-spindle performance and automation at an accessible price point, making it especially suited for shops looking to improve throughput without increasing complexity.
