Floor Model CMMs for Large Part Measurement

Quality Vision International (QVI) has introduced floor model FlexPoint, a new family of large format multisensor coordinate measuring systems, to the metrology marketplace. FlexPoint is designed to offer a unique combination of sensors and CAD-based programming to solve a variety of dimensional measurement problems for large parts.

FlexPoint systems are multisensor-based. They support a range of tactile and non-contact measuring sensors including TP20/TP200 touch trigger probes, SP25 continuous contact scanning probes, point and line scan lasers, white light sensors and a QVI video sensor. The unique VersaFlex multisensor cluster provides up to three simultaneously available sensors on an articulating probe head. With several sensors available immediately and at the same time, down time is eliminated since individual sensors need not be exchanged from a change rack, and there is no need to recalibrate each time a sensor is used.

"FlexPoint's high quality construction stems from a stable transport design, carefully selected materials, rigid body members, air bearings on all axes and active temperature compensation," said a company spokesperson. "Patented design features enable a large measuring volume within a small footprint. FlexPoint systems undergo factory volumetric calibration using the Etalon Trac-Cal laser system, ensuring the lowest possible calibration uncertainty. In the field, machine accuracy verification is performed in accordance with ISO 10360-2:2009. FlexPoint systems are appropriate for controlled-environment QA labs, but are also rugged enough to perform well in often-adverse shop floor conditions."

FlexPoint systems are powered by QVI ZONE3 CAD-based metrology software, which provides complete flexibility for multisensor measurements. ZONE3 features an entirely model-based graphical user interface, visual validation for every step and graphical reporting, making it an easy and intuitive 3-D metrology software.

Floor model FlexPoint is offered in three X-Z base configurations, each with a choice of Y-axis range to meet a variety of measurement needs.
