MIT and edX Partner to Upskill Today's Manufacturing Professionals

Eighty-four percent of executives agree that there is a talent shortage in U.S. manufacturing, according to a survey by the Manufacturing Institute and Deloitte. The skills gap facing manufacturing could mean as many as 2 million jobs go unfilled over the coming decade.

Many manufacturers believe the digitally-savvy millennial generation can fill this gap and change the manufacturing landscape due to their ability to take traditionally slow processes and convert them to be faster and more effective, resulting in business success that will set the skills precedent for years to come.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is offering a free online course on edX.org for an easy and accessible new way for potential new talent to learn and adopt manufacturing / engineering skills. The MicroMasters Principles of Manufacturing course, taught by professors at the Mechanical Engineering department, explores fundamental skills needed for global excellence in manufacturing and competitiveness.
