5-Axis Large Capacity EDM Drilling Machine

Current EDM, Inc. has announced an upgrade of the Current EDM Model RT6050 5-axis EDM drilling machine. Built to meet exacting standards, the gantry style RT6050-5A is suitable for production mold, die and turbine components. The RT6050 features a Siemens 840Dsl control. A 57 peak-amp power supply is standard with a 0.008"~0.256" diameter electrode range. The XYZ travels are 60" x 50" x 16" or 24" with a generous work envelope of 48" diameter by 30" height, and part capacity of 8,000 lbs. on the table.

"CEI recently upgraded the Siemens 840Dsl control and software to handle the toughest EDM drilling applications," said a company spokesperson. Features include expandable memory, program power settings and referencing cycles to simplify complex programming. Multi-level program lockout protects process data from unwanted changes. Enhanced break-through detection offers accurate and consistent depth control. Precision ball screws, high-torque Siemens motors and absolute encoders are used to provide precise positioning. The RT6050-5A can be configured with a programmable tilting head and 5-axis Nikken rotary table or with a precision Nikken AB table system; add a 24-station tool changer and 6-station guide changer. Teach pendant software enables programming and operation from the pendant.

Power supply upgrades enable drilling with less side wear at the tip of the electrode resulting in more consistent depth, diameter and faster drilling times. The automatic electrode changer has been upgraded to speed electrode exchanges and optimize electrode usage. The newly enhanced programmable servo control, with advanced gap sensing, is designed to improved drilling stability and reduce electrode flexing, especially when using long, small diameter electrodes, providing precision depth control at electrode breakout.

The RT6050 is available as a twin-head version with a 14-axis Siemens 840Dsl control.

Current EDM Model RT6050 machine features:

  • Multiple machine model lines with table stroke from 12 x 8" on up
  • Micro-hole drilling system for electrode diameters from 0.0012"
  • Single and dual drilling heads for high production applications
  • Robot Assisted Drilling (RAD) systems designed for high production, lights-out applications.
