Nidec Machine Tool offers the 11-axis ZA30A CNC shaving cutter grinder.
Designed to make high precision tooth profiling simpler, the ZA30A features a drive mechanism based on rigidity analysis by 3D CAD and a cast iron bed with damping properties.
The grinding wheel spindle mounted on high precision angular contact bearings is enclosed in a rugged spindle unit and driven directly from a motor. Additionally, the grinding wheel spindle is equipped with a wheel balancing device. All axes are controlled via CNC and have a resolution of .1 micron.
The cutter movement against the grinding wheel creates generative motion. This requires synchronous motion between the cutter rotation (B) and table (C) axes. Higher accuracy is obtained without the need of pitch block and index plate, the company reported.
A traction drive reduction gear is used on the B-axis, which reduces vibrations and provides smooth rotational drive.
Complicated tooth profile cutters can be ground with short set-up times. The CNC calculates the set-up and carries out set-up changeover by inputting necessary data. For repeat parts, the set-up is completed instantly by recalling the data from memory.
Automating rear face dressing and relief dressing is possible by adding the optional 2-axis NC rear face dresser.
The CNC can control fives types of grinding wheel operations: tooth profile, relief, outer diameter, runout and rear face of wheel.
Additional features include:
- Instant accuracy correction during bias compensation
- Dress teaching function reduces grinding wheel dressing time
- Wet grinding also available.
