Jam Industries Continues to Step into the Future

Twenty-seven years ago, Eric Johnson began his company, Jam Industries, Inc. www.jamind.com" target="_blank">(www.jamind.com) with two new CNC machine tools in a 1,200-sq. ft. leased facility located in the shadows of Rochester, NY's iconic Eastman Kodak.

Fast forward to today, and Jam Industries is ISO-9001 and ITAR registered and has over 110,000 total sq. ft. with 75 full time employees and 80 CNC machine tools. These precision machining capabilities include 3-, 4- and simultaneous 5-axis vertical/horizontal machining centers, multitasking turn/mill centers up to 3" bar/12" chuck capacity, 9-axis Swiss-turn technologies up to 51-mm bar capacity, 3D printing and laser fabrication equipment. "With this complement of manufacturing technologies, the limits of what can be successfully manufactured at Jam are nearly endless," said a company spokesperson.

A certified deburring department provides the tools and experience needed to meet the standards required for Jam's DOD/military, optical, aerospace, medical and industrial customers. A complete assembly area adds customer value by improving overall product quality, helping to drive its customers products to market more expeditiously, and last but not least, lower its customers' operational in-house costs.

Eric Johnson's newest venture, JS Coating Solutions www.jscoatingsolutions.com" target="_blank">(www.jscoatingsolutions.com), rounds out the full range of manufacturing services offered. "This company has become known as one of the most premier wet spray paint and precision powder coating businesses in the Northeast. An additional 30 employees at this plant provide expertise to customers in the arena of various part finishing operations," said the spokesperson.

Johnson said, "We step into the future every day by investing in the most current advanced manufacturing technology available. Many of our CNC machine tools incorporate linear and rotary scales along with thermal compensation measures to be able to achieve the ultra-precision tolerances and finishes especially required for our customers. Matter of fact, several 5-axis machining centers recently purchased have repeatabilities of within 40-millionths and incorporate 30,000-RPM precision spindles."

Besides the three buildings that actually contain both the machine tools and coating operations, Jam integrates two metrology labs that utilize the latest in technology and software to ensure that customer parts are accurately inspected to be defect-free. The Zeiss CMM Contura model plays an important part in measuring components with complex geometries to achieve the required quality goals. Zeiss stereo microscopes with 50x magnification levels also are integral at Jam for critical detailed part inspections. All of the respective gauging equipment is calibrated by an ISO-17025 accredited laboratory. Jam also complies to all aerospace AS-9102 F.A.I. requirements.

"In order to be truly successful in this day and age, it is simply not enough to make good parts," said the spokesperson. "Accurate planning and detailed communication, along with a clean manufacturing environment, are needed as well. These qualities are contributing to Jam's prominence in today's global manufacturing market. And, as much as Jam Industries has invested in CNC machines, support equipment and systems, it also continually invests in its employees, which allows it to be on the leading edge of outstanding customer relationships."

"Johnson and his Jam Industries team are continuously moving forward and stepping into the future beyond their comfort zone, and differentiating themselves with the very best of manufacturing technologies, technical support and dedicated employees," concluded the spokesperson.
