Changing Lives Through the Power of Work
July 1, 2018
Goodwill Industries of Central Michigan's Heartland, Inc. President and CEO Ken Bauer has implemented a variety of workforce development programs that, along with job training, opens new work opportunities to individuals. One particular program is aimed at working with automotive and hydraulic suppliers.
Goodwill has International Automotive Task Force (IATF) 16949 Certification-one of the automotive industry's most widely used international standards for quality management-with a scope of: Sub-System Component Assembly. Through this certification, Goodwill performs sub-system component assemblies, packaging, product kitting, visual inspection and nonconforming product sorting for Tier 1 automotive suppliers such as DENSO, Eaton, Hi-Lex and Stanley Lighting.
As part of the Work Hardening/Manufacturing Program, participating local residents learn about quality control and the IATF 16949 quality process, production and line management techniques, and the importance of cycle times. Upon completion of the program, Goodwill employees are highly-skilled, trained workers capable of performing a wide range of manufacturing operations.
Goodwill places up to 40 participants a year in its manufacturing operations to receive training, with some participants being hired as full-time employees.
