Custom High-Speed Punching Press

Beckwood Press Company, a manufacturer of custom hydraulic presses and automation systems and the Triform line of precision forming equipment, has been awarded a contract by Dahlstrom Roll Form to design and manufacture a 75-ton high-speed punching press. This will be Dahlstrom's fourth custom Beckwood press since 2002. Previous machinery includes 58- and 140-ton forming presses and a 100-ton high-speed punching press.

"Learning the intricacies of the roll forming process through our long-term partnership with Dahlstrom has been really exciting," said Beckwood President Jeffrey Debus. "To meet their speed and positional accuracy requirements, our engineers have been challenged to push the limits of a hydraulic press."

"With a 3 inch x 50 inch forming area and a custom-designed hydraulic circuit, this press is capable of punching aluminum and steel sheet material up to 60 times per minute," said a company spokesperson. "Programmable fixed stops limit ram retraction and eliminate over-shoot, ensuring accuracy and reducing cycle times while a through-hole in the bed expedites scrap removal and increases throughput."

"The press' structure is engineered for Infinite Life using Finite Element Analysis software, which uses computer-aided simulations to ensure the design is robust enough to handle the most taxing industrial applications. Dual linear and pressure transducers offer reliability and redundancy, and Beckwood's proprietary PressLink connect module facilitates fast, complementary remote support and troubleshooting," said a company spokesperson.

"Beckwood has become a valued resource for our continuing growth," said Robert White, President and Owner of Dahlstrom Roll Form. "Our presses have functioned accurately and reliably for many years, and our operators like the standardized interface Beckwood works with us to create on each machine. The commonality of control makes their jobs easier."
