42 mm Hybrid Swiss Lathe for Complete Part in One Operation
July 1, 2017
The Ganesh CNC Swiss lathe series, such as the twin-spindle SL-42Y2 8-axis 42 mm hybrid CNC Swiss lathe addresses the need of getting work up to O 1-5/8" done efficiently in one operation, with all of the axial and radial milling features accurately timed and deburred.
All of the Ganesh Swiss machines feature simultaneous front and back-working machining capability. The 1-5/8" bar capacity SL-42Y2 Ganesh multi-tasking hybrid CNC Swiss lathe weighs nearly 11,000 pounds, and features a Y-axis for both the main and sub-spindle tooling. There are more advantages of having Y-axis on the sub-spindle than just for those machining features that require a Y-axis. The presence of the Y-axis doubles the dedicated sub-spindle tool count, going from 4 to 8 tools; which can offer the possibility of having more than one part set-up pre-staged for fast changeover. The extra tooling means that redundant tools can be loaded to facilitate the use of the Tool Life Management System to help keep the job running into the night. And lastly, tool centerlines can be electronically trimmed to find the best cutting condition to give a tool extended tool life and to provide superior surface finish. The SL-20Y2 20 mm machine and the venerable CS-32 with 32 mm bar capacity are two additional CNC Swiss lathes available from Ganesh Machinery.
The SL-42Y2 hybrid CNC Swiss lathe can be operated with, or without, a guide bushing so you can make the most profitable choice of operating modes that provide the best production solution for each job. The 6,000 RPM main and sub-spindle are powered by 10-HP temperature controlled integral motor spindles. There are 33 toolholders supplied with the basic machine, of which 9 are driven using ER-16 collet spindles. The main spindle can bring 19 tools to work the part and the sub-spindle can utilize 14 tools in the basic machine configuration. Many tooling options are available to address the specific tooling needs of each workpiece. All the Taiwanese built Ganesh machines feature a 0.001° resolution C-axis on both the main and sub-spindle for accurately timed axial and radial milling feature placement.
A parts catcher and parts conveyor is provided on all Ganesh multitasking machines to facilitate the careful removal of valuable parts from the machine without any damage. A cut-off confirmation sweep-arm switch is provided to ensure that the part was separated from the barstock successfully. Cutting oil flow confirmation monitoring is provided to ensure that the cutting oil is properly lubricating the cutting tools.
